New Delhi: A shocking incident unfolded in Punjab’s Jalandhar city on Tuesday morning when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi was brutally shot dead outside a gurdwara.

The daylight murder has sent shockwaves across the city and raised serious concerns over law and order in the state. Oberoi was attacked moments after offering prayers, highlighting the audacity and planning behind the crime.

Gun Attack Outside Gurdwara After Morning Prayers

According to police and eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 7:30 am in the Model Town area of Jalandhar. Lucky Oberoi had just completed his daily prayers at a local gurdwara and was heading towards his vehicle when the attackers struck.

As soon as he sat inside his car, unidentified assailants riding a two-wheeler opened indiscriminate fire on him. Witnesses reported hearing 8 to 10 gunshots, creating panic in the otherwise calm morning hours.

Victim Succumbs to Multiple Bullet Injuries

Oberoi sustained multiple bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital by family members and locals. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later shifted to Shri Ram Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Medical officials confirmed that he suffered 8 to 9 gunshot wounds, with several bullets hitting vital areas such as the chest and one striking his head or face. Excessive blood loss and damage to critical organs proved fatal.

Area Sealed, Massive Police Operation Launched

Following the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot and sealed the entire area. A heavy police presence was deployed around the gurdwara and nearby localities.

CCTV cameras installed in and around the area are being examined to identify the attackers and trace their escape route. Police have set up checkpoints across the district and formed three special investigation teams to nab the culprits.

Police Suspect Targeted Killing

Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder was a pre-planned targeted killing. Officials revealed that Lucky Oberoi had allegedly received threats in the past, which strengthens the theory of a conspiracy.

ADCP Jayant Puri and senior officer Harvinder Singh Gill stated that all angles, including political rivalry and personal enmity, are being investigated thoroughly.

Social Media Claim of Responsibility Under Probe

After the murder, a person named Jas Butter claimed responsibility for the killing through a social media post. The post allegedly linked the crime to a dispute over the appointment of a president at Khalsa College, Jalandhar, and mentioned that a warning had been issued earlier on December 25. Police are currently verifying the authenticity of the post and probing whether it is connected to the actual crime or part of a larger conspiracy.

Tense Atmosphere in Jalandhar

The murder has left the city tense, with increased police deployment to prevent any unrest. Political leaders and local residents have expressed shock and demanded swift justice. The incident has once again sparked debate over public safety and the growing incidents of violent crime in the region.
