Assam Horror: Brutal Rape And Murder Of 16-Year-Old Girl Shocks State, Three Teens Arrested

A 16-year-old girl was found dead in Assam’s Hailakandi district, leading to the arrest of three teenagers in an alleged rape and murder case. Police have formed an SIT to investigate the incident.

New Delhi: Assam Police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in Hailakandi district. The case has triggered widespread anger, with residents taking to the streets and demanding strict punishment for the accused.

The victim was found dead at her residence in the Aloichora area under Katlicherra police station late Saturday night. The house is located near National Highway-6, which connects Assam and Mizoram. Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.

Three Youths Arrested, Police Continue Investigation

According to police officials, three accused aged between 17 and 19 have been arrested after an initial inquiry. Five people were reportedly detained during the early stages of the investigation.

Hailakandi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amitabh Sinha said one of the arrested accused is around 17-and-a-half years old. Due to the alleged severity of the crime, police have approached the court seeking permission to try him as an adult.

The accused have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Police Examine Digital Evidence and Background

Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the relationship between the victim and the accused. Police said the accused were reportedly familiar with the victim and had knowledge about her home.

Authorities are analysing mobile phones and communication records seized during the investigation. Officials said the exact motive behind the crime is yet to be established.

Additional Superintendent of Police Samir Darpan Baruah said more sections could be added as the investigation progresses and further arrests may also take place.

Family Alleges Brutal Attack

The victim’s family has alleged that she was brutally assaulted before being killed and has demanded the death penalty for those responsible.

The victim’s mother said the family had gone to attend a feast at a relative’s house nearby. After an argument with a cousin, the girl returned home, and family members later found her dead when they reached the residence. Police officials said the nature of injuries and other forensic evidence are being examined as part of the investigation.

Protests Spread Across Barak Valley

The incident has sparked protests in Hailakandi and nearby areas. Angry residents blocked National Highway-6, demanding immediate action and justice for the victim.

Police have urged people not to share sensitive information about the case on social media, stating that such details could affect the investigation and violate the privacy of the victim.
