Meerut court convicts Muskan and Sahil in murder case (Img: Dynamite News)
Meerut: The Meerut District Court on Wednesday convicted Muskan and Sahil in the murder case of Merchant Navy worker Saurabh Rajput, who was killed in March 2025. The court is expected to announce the quantum of sentence on October 14.
Rajput’s dismembered body was allegedly concealed inside a blue plastic drum at his Meerut home following the murder. The case saw 126 hearings and testimonies before District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra, with both the prosecution and defence presenting their arguments.
According to the prosecution, Muskan allegedly drugged her husband before stabbing him to death with the help of Sahil. Prosecutors further alleged that the two dismembered Rajput’s body, placed the remains inside a blue drum and sealed it with cement.
The prosecution told the court that the murder was premeditated and alleged that the accused had purchased a knife, razor, cement, sand and a large blue drum before carrying out the crime. The two allegedly fled to Himachal Pradesh after the murder and were arrested around two weeks later.
Police and forensic witnesses reportedly told the court that Rajput’s remains were recovered from the drum. Post-mortem evidence recorded injuries that prosecutors said were consistent with the use of sharp-edged weapons.
Rajput’s family has sought the harshest possible punishment. His elder brother, Rahul, said the family wanted the accused to receive a death sentence.
“We just want one thing: whatever they did to my brother, the same thing should happen to them," Rahul said.
“Since the beginning of this case, we have been hoping to get justice. We have just demanded one thing — whatever they did to my brother, the same should happen to them. The least they get should be a death sentence," he added.
Rahul said the prolonged proceedings had affected his business and family life.
“It is more than 17-18 months. My business has come to a standstill because of this case. We used to leave for court at 11 in the morning and return only by 5 in the evening," he said.
He said he had appeared in court 11 times, while his mother appeared nine times. According to Rahul, 22 witnesses testified during the trial.
“If the accused is awarded anything less than the death sentence, we will approach the High Court or the Supreme Court," he said.
Rajput’s mother, Renu Rajput, also accused Muskan and Sahil of killing her son. She reportedly told the court that Saurabh had married Muskan despite opposition from his family and alleged that Muskan continued meeting Sahil after the marriage.
The court has now convicted both accused, while the punishment will be announced separately on October 14.
