Meerut: All eyes are on the district court in Meerut as Muskan Rastogi and her boyfriend Sahil await the verdict on their punishment in the sensational blue drum murder case. The court had convicted both on September 30 of murdering Muskan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, and destroying evidence. District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra is scheduled to pronounce the sentence.

Saurabh’s family is hoping for a strict punishment, saying justice for the victim is their priority. The case has drawn widespread attention because of the alleged manner in which the murder was committed and the efforts reportedly made to conceal the body.

126 Hearings Before Conviction

The case dates back to March 3, 2025. According to the prosecution’s allegations, Muskan and Sahil conspired to kill Saurabh and subsequently concealed his body inside a blue plastic drum, sealing it with cement to hide the crime.

After 126 hearing dates, the court examined the evidence and found both accused guilty of murder and destruction of evidence. Following the conviction, the court gave them 15 days to present their arguments on the appropriate sentence.

The court had reserved its verdict on the conviction on September 19 before delivering its decision on September 30. The sentencing stage will determine the punishment for the offences established by the court.

Saurabh’s Family Prays for Justice

Saurabh’s mother, Renu Sharma, has been praying for justice for her son. During Navratri, family members observed fasts and offered prayers, hoping that the court would award a punishment they consider just.

Saurabh’s brother, Rahul, also known as Bablu, had said that the family would approach the Supreme Court if necessary to pursue justice. He expressed hope that the court would award the death penalty to both convicts and said the family would continue its legal fight if the sentence did not meet its expectations.

Muskan’s mother-in-law has also reportedly sought the death penalty for the two convicts. The family maintains that the punishment announced by the court will be a crucial moment in its pursuit of justice.

Prosecution Alleged Saurabh Was Drugged Before Murder

According to the prosecution’s case, Muskan allegedly gave Saurabh a substance that rendered him unconscious before killing him with Sahil’s assistance. The prosecution further alleged that the body was dismembered, placed inside a blue drum and concealed with cement.

After the alleged crime, the two reportedly travelled to Himachal Pradesh. Police arrested them on March 18 and 19, 2025, according to the account of the case. Their court appearances attracted considerable attention, and security was tightened when they were produced before the court. During one such appearance, angry lawyers reportedly assaulted Sahil.

Court’s Sentencing Decision in Focus

With both accused convicted, the court’s sentencing decision is now the central issue. The punishment will depend on the court’s assessment of the offences, the evidence and the applicable law.

For Saurabh’s family, the decision represents a significant stage in a case that has remained in the public spotlight since March 2025. The court’s order will determine the legal consequences for Muskan Rastogi and Sahil following their conviction.
