New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested one of its own officials in Delhi in connection with a bribery case, underlining the agency’s stated commitment to a strict policy of zero tolerance towards corruption.

According to an official press release issued on March 11, the accused officer, identified as Deepak Phalswal, an Inspector posted in Delhi, was taken into custody on March 10 following allegations that he demanded a bribe from a private individual.

Allegations of Bribe Demand

The case was registered after a complaint was received accusing the inspector of seeking illegal gratification. The complainant alleged that the officer demanded money in exchange for not taking action in a complaint that was reportedly registered with the CBI against the individual.

Officials said the allegations were taken seriously and an investigation was initiated promptly. Following preliminary verification, the agency registered a case and proceeded with further action.

Searches and Evidence Seized

As part of the investigation, the agency conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused officer. During these searches, investigators reportedly recovered incriminating material, including documents and electronic records believed to be linked to the case.

Officials stated that the seized material will be examined in detail as part of the ongoing probe to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery demand.

Court Grants Police Remand

After his arrest, the accused inspector was produced before a competent court. The court granted two days of police remand to allow investigators to further question him and gather additional evidence related to the case.
