New Delhi: Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, will be observed across India from September 14 to September 25, 2026. The 10-day festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, with devotees bringing idols of Bappa home, performing rituals and offering special prayers.

During the festival, preparing traditional dishes as bhog (sacred offering) holds great importance. Devotees believe that offering these delicacies with devotion brings happiness, prosperity and blessings from Lord Ganesha.

1. Ukadiche Modak

Considered Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet, Ukadiche Modak is an essential part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Made with a soft rice flour coating and filled with coconut and jaggery, this traditional Maharashtrian delicacy is offered as prasad.

2. Coconut Ladoo

Coconut ladoos are a simple yet delicious festive treat. Prepared using fresh coconut, milk and sugar or jaggery, these ladoos are commonly offered to Bappa during prayers.

3. Puran Poli

A popular Maharashtrian sweet dish, Puran Poli is made with a stuffing of chana dal and jaggery wrapped inside a soft flatbread. Its rich taste makes it a favourite during festive meals.

4. Karanji

Known as Gujiya in many parts of India, Karanji is a crispy sweet pastry filled with coconut, dry fruits and jaggery. It is traditionally prepared during Ganesh Chaturthi and other celebrations.

5. Sabudana Khichdi
