New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approached the Delhi Police after its Post-Result Services Portal was targeted by a series of coordinated cyber attack attempts during the ongoing re-evaluation and verification process for Class 10 and Class 12 examinations.

Portal Targeted During Re-evaluation Window

CBSE said the attacks occurred soon after the portal was opened for students seeking photocopies of answer sheets, verification of marks, and re-evaluation of board exam results. The board stated that the timing and scale of activity suggested an organised attempt to disrupt services.

Massive Traffic and Malicious Attempts Detected

According to CBSE, the platform experienced an unusually high surge in activity, recording nearly 1.5 million hits within two minutes. Officials also detected over one lakh unauthorised attempts aimed at accessing files stored on the system.

In a separate incident, the board reported blocking around 3.8 million malicious data packets that were designed to overwhelm the portal’s infrastructure and affect its functioning.

Systems Remained Secure, Says CBSE

Despite repeated attempts, CBSE confirmed that its cybersecurity systems successfully neutralised all threats. The board clarified that no student data was accessed, altered or compromised during the incidents.

It further added that continuous monitoring ensured the portal remained functional, allowing students to submit requests without disruption.

Thousands of Applications Processed

As of June 4, more than 70,000 students had completed applications through the grievance redressal system, including requests related to mark verification and re-evaluation.

Cybersecurity Concerns Under Review

The incidents come amid increased attention on the security of CBSE’s digital examination systems, including its On-Screen Marking (OSM) platform. Earlier discussions involving technical experts from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras have focused on strengthening infrastructure and reducing vulnerabilities.

CBSE has now requested a formal investigation to identify those responsible for the attacks and determine whether the intent was service disruption or attempted data access.
