Pune: A cricket connection has now emerged in the investigation into the sensational murder case at Lohagad Fort in Pune, Maharashtra. Police are closely examining the relationship between accused Siya Goyal and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary.
Siya is accused of conspiring with Chetan to kill her fiancé, realtor Ketan Agarwal. According to police, Ketan was allegedly pushed from a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18.
Siya’s brother Sahil Goyal was questioned by police for more than 10 hours on Friday. During questioning, he reportedly told investigators that he knew Chetan Chaudhary.
This statement is significant as Siya’s parents had earlier claimed that they had no information about Chetan.
An official said Sahil knew Chetan and police verified certain details from him during the questioning.
Sahil told police that Siya would often go to watch his cricket matches. It was during one of these matches that Siya first met Chetan.
According to police, the two later met again at a common friend’s Diwali party last year. After this, they allegedly came closer and started staying in regular contact.
Sources said call detail records show that Siya and Chetan spoke to each other more than 2,000 times between January and June.
The total duration of these calls is estimated to be around 238 hours. Investigators are examining whether these conversations were connected to the alleged murder conspiracy.
Sahil also told police that if Siya had not wanted to marry Ketan, the family would have cancelled the wedding.
Siya’s mother Pooja Goyal had earlier said that her daughter never expressed any unhappiness over the marriage. She also claimed that the family had never seen or spoken to Chetan.
However, Siya Goyal’s lawyer has maintained that Siya and Chetan were friends.
Police investigation has revealed that both accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, allegedly deleted WhatsApp chats, Instagram conversations and other digital records from their mobile phones.
Forensic experts are now trying to recover the deleted data to establish the complete chain of communication between the two accused.
Investigators have also found that Siya and Chetan met at a cafe in Pune’s Lulla Nagar area on June 17, a day before Ketan Agarwal’s alleged murder.
The meeting reportedly lasted for nearly an hour. Police are now probing whether the murder plan was discussed during this meeting.
Lonavala Division DSP Gajanan Tonpe said that the roles of both Siya and Chetan in Ketan’s alleged murder have been established.
Police are also preparing to record statements of other relatives of Siya Goyal as part of the ongoing investigation.
