New Delhi: The devastating fire at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar has left a Gurugram-based family completely shattered after eight of its members lost their lives in the tragedy.
A day after the incident, the Dynamite News team reached the residence of the grieving Aggarwal family in Gurugram, where relatives and neighbours were struggling to come to terms with the massive loss.
The deadly blaze broke out early Wednesday morning at a hotel near Max Hospital in Saket, claiming 21 lives and leaving several others injured. Among the victims were members of the Aggarwal family, who had travelled to Delhi for the treatment of Radheyshyam Aggarwal, admitted to the ICU at Max Hospital.
According to family members, the relatives were staying at the hotel close to the hospital when the fire erupted. The incident claimed the lives of Vivek Aggarwal and seven other family members.
When Dynamite News spoke to Ankush Gupta, Vivek Aggarwal’s brother-in-law, emotions overwhelmed him as he recalled the tragedy. Fighting back tears during his conversation with correspondent Deepika Tiwari, Gupta described the pain of losing multiple loved ones in a single incident.
Ankush Gupta said the family had been completely destroyed by the fire. The grief and shock were visible on his face as he spoke about losing his sister, brother-in-law and several other close relatives.
“We have lost everything,” he said while mourning the deaths of eight members of the family. Relatives gathered at the Gurugram residence were seen consoling each other as the family struggled to process the scale of the tragedy.
Gupta also blamed the administration and authorities for the incident, alleging that negligence at multiple levels contributed to the disaster. He claimed lapses in safety arrangements and oversight had cost innocent lives and demanded accountability for the tragedy.
The Malviya Nagar fire has triggered widespread outrage, with investigators now examining possible violations of fire safety norms and building regulations at the hotel where the blaze occurred.
