Woman killed after ex-partner sets her ablaze
Bangalore: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Bangalore. Here a 35-year-old woman was burnt alive by her ex-live-in partner by sprinkling petrol on her.
The woman has been identified as Vanajakshi. The incident took place in Electronic City police station area on August 30. Police have arrested 52-year-old accused cab driver Vithal.
According to the police, Vanajakshi and Vithal were in a live-in relationship four to five years ago.
Both were married earlier as well. But due to Vithal's addiction to alcohol and the constant troubles he was causing, the woman left him. After this, Vanajakshi became close to another person Mariappa. This made the accused Vithal even more angry.
Attack by stopping at traffic signal
On August 30, the woman was returning from the temple with her friend Mariappa. During that time Vithal followed their car. He stopped the car at a traffic signal in Electronic City area and attacked with petrol. The woman did not get a chance to escape. The accused first poured petrol on the car and then chased the woman and sprinkled petrol on her and set her on fire with a lighter.
People tried to save her
People present there at the time of the incident tried to save the woman. A passerby tried to extinguish the fire with the help of a cloth. After this, people nearby also rushed to help. The woman was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition. She was first admitted to Victoria Hospital and later to St. John's Hospital. Doctors said that the woman had about 60 percent burns. She died during treatment.
Electronic City Division DCP M Narayan said that the police arrested the accused within 24 hours. The officer said that a person present there showed great bravery to save the woman and immediately helped in taking her to the hospital. But due to serious injuries, the woman could not be saved. Police is now investigating the matter further.
Background of the accused and the woman's struggle
Initial police investigations have revealed that Vithal was addicted to alcohol and used to quarrel on a regular basis. Vanajakshi was fed up of his harassment for a long time. Eventually, she broke off the relationship and became friends with Mariappa. This did not go down well with Vithal and due to this resentment, he planned to kill the woman. Police say that the woman had not lodged any formal complaint against the accused earlier.
