Meerut: A chilling incident in Meerut's Kapsad village has sent shockwaves across the region. The brutal murder of a Dalit woman, Sunita, and the abduction of her daughter Ruby has ignited public outrage and raised serious questions about law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

A Mother’s Fatal Resistance

According to police, the tragedy unfolded on Thursday morning. Sunita was on her way to the fields with her daughter Ruby when they were intercepted by village men—Paras Som, Sunil, and their accomplices.

The accused allegedly tried to forcibly take Ruby. When Sunita resisted, they attacked her with sharp weapons. Critically injured, she was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her wounds during treatment. The accused then fled the scene, kidnapping Ruby.

Police Crackdown and Dramatic Recovery

Following the incident, Meerut police launched an intensive overnight search operation. Their efforts culminated on Saturday with a breakthrough in Haridwar, where they safely recovered Ruby and the main accused, Paras Som.

Both were brought back to Meerut. In the aftermath, a heavy police force was deployed in the area, effectively turning the village into a police cantonment to prevent any unrest.

Ruby’s Court Statement: A Confidential Hearing

On Sunday, the legal proceedings began with the victim, Ruby, being presented before the court of ACJM-II. Her statement was recorded for nearly 50 minutes in a proceeding shrouded in confidentiality and tight security.

The presence of her family and legal representatives was ensured to avoid any legal discrepancies in this sensitive case.

Later in the evening, around 4:45 PM, the accused Paras Som was produced before the CJM court. Given the gravity of the charges, the court ordered him to be sent to 14 days of judicial custody. The court premises were heavily fortified, with police maintaining strict vigilance over all movement.
