Maharajganj: On Tuesday evening, in the Nautanwa area near the India-Nepal border, a team of food safety officers led by SDM Naveen Kumar carried out a special inspection of medical stores. The purpose of this operation was to ensure that only safe and legal medicines are made available to customers.

During the inspection, the team primarily checked the validity of licenses, quality of medicines, sale of prescription drugs without proper prescriptions, and errors in records. This action was conducted under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The sudden inspections at several medical stores in Nautanwa and Sonauli created panic among shopkeepers.

SDM Naveen Kumar told reporters that the team specifically tried to ensure that stores possess the required FSSAI licenses. Additionally, the storage and sale standards of medicines were examined. He said, “Our objective is not just to check the legal compliance of the stores, but also to ensure that the general public receives only safe medicines. Customer safety is our top priority.”
