New Delhi: Actor and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has criticised a social media user for attempting to defend accused Siya Goyal in the Ketan Agarwal murder case, saying no cultural or personal circumstances can justify an alleged criminal act.

Her remarks came in response to a post on X that argued Siya Goyal may have been forced into an unwanted marriage and suggested that, had she lived in countries such as the United States or Europe, she could have chosen a live-in relationship instead.

'No Culture Can Justify Criminal Behaviour'

Reacting to the post, Suchitra said there were several lawful alternatives available if someone was being forced into marriage. "No culture can justify criminal behaviour. Shame on you and everyone who is trying to justify such criminal behavior," she wrote on X.

She added that Siya could have chosen to leave the relationship, elope, or file a legal complaint against her family if she was being coerced into marriage.

"She could have run away, she could have eloped, she could have filed a case against her family too to force her into marriage against her consent. But to pre-plan and push her fiancé to death off a cliff that is the mind of a psychopath," Suchitra wrote.

What Is the Ketan Agarwal Case?

Ketan Agarwal died during a trek at Maharashtra's Lohagad Fort on June 18. While the incident was initially believed to be an accidental fall, investigators later alleged that it was a pre-planned murder.

Police arrested Ketan's fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged partner, Chetan Chaudhary, in connection with the case. Both are currently in judicial custody, while the investigation remains ongoing. The allegations against the accused are yet to be tested in court.

Debate Continues Online

The case has triggered widespread debate on social media, with users expressing sharply divided views over the circumstances surrounding the incident. Suchitra's comments have added to the online discussion, with many supporting her stance that alleged criminal acts cannot be justified regardless of personal circumstances.
