Srinagar: A joint search operation by the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Poonch Police led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, six grenades, ammunition and other items from a suspected militant hideout in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday.

The recovery was made in the Sutharban area of the Sawjian sector, a border region where security operations remain significant. The cache included an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, six grenades, 30 rounds of ammunition and some food items, police sources said. The circumstances surrounding the discovery, however, remain unclear, with no official statement available at the time of filing this report.

AK-47, Six Grenades Recovered During Joint Search

According to police sources, the Army and the SOG of Poonch Police jointly searched the area and recovered the weapons and other material from a location suspected to have been used as a militant hideout.

The seizure included an AK-47 assault rifle and its magazine, six grenades and 30 rounds of ammunition. Food items were also found at the location.

The recovered material is understood to have been taken for further examination. Officials have not yet publicly clarified whether the items were linked to any specific militant group or activity.

Poonch lies in Jammu and Kashmir’s border region, making security-related developments in the district particularly significant. The discovery of a cache containing a rifle, grenades and ammunition is likely to prompt further scrutiny of the location and the circumstances in which the material was stored.

However, the recovery alone does not establish who placed the weapons there, how long they had remained at the site or whether they were intended for a specific operation. Those questions remain unanswered pending further investigation and an official account.

Origin of Weapons and Possible Leads Remain Unclear

At the time of publication, no official statement had been issued detailing the circumstances of the recovery. Information about the origin of the weapons, their intended use and whether investigators had identified any further leads was not immediately available. The examination of the recovered items may help investigators establish additional details, but no findings on those questions have been confirmed publicly.
