London: A major development has emerged in the United Kingdom in connection with the Epstein scandal, as police have arrested King Charles III’s younger brother, Prince Andrew, over allegations tied to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to reports, officers detained the Duke of York on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest follows claims that confidential government documents may have been shared with Epstein - allegations that surfaced in recently released US files.

Police Statement
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said, “Following a detailed assessment, we have now commenced an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in a public office. It is important that we protect the impartiality and integrity of our investigation while working with our partners to investigate this alleged crime.”

Police acknowledged the significant public interest in the case and stated that further updates would be provided in due course.

Background of the Controversy
Prince Andrew, the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has long faced scrutiny over his ties to Epstein, who was accused of operating a sex trafficking network involving underage girls.

The controversy intensified after Virginia Giuffre alleged that she had been forced to have sexual relations with Prince Andrew when she was a minor. The Duke of York denied all allegations. However, a 2019 television interview in which he addressed the accusations drew widespread criticism for its tone and content.

In January 2022, Queen Elizabeth II stripped Prince Andrew of his military titles and royal patronages. He later reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre, without admitting criminal liability.

While Prince Andrew has previously expressed regret over his friendship with Epstein, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The latest investigation marks a significant escalation in the ongoing controversy surrounding the British royal family.
