High Court's major verdict in the Twisha death case
Jabalpur: Several significant developments emerged during the High Court hearing regarding the high-profile case of the suspicious death of Twisha Sharma in Bhopal.
On behalf of the case's prime accused, Samarth Singh, his counsel requested to withdraw the anticipatory bail petition; the court accepted this request and dismissed the petition. According to reports, Samarth Singh may now surrender before the Bhopal court.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta presented arguments on behalf of Twisha's maternal family via video conferencing. Citing the gravity of the case and the need for an impartial investigation, he demanded that a re-postmortem be conducted—a request the court granted.
Re-Postmortem to be Conducted; Sealed Report to be Submitted to Court
Given the condition of the deceased's body—which has been preserved for an extended period—the court issued directives for immediate action.
As per the order, a team of expert doctors from AIIMS Delhi will now arrive in Bhopal to conduct a fresh post-mortem examination. The court further clarified that the post-mortem report is to be submitted directly to the court in a sealed envelope to ensure the confidentiality and impartiality of the investigative process.
In-Laws' Demand for Custody of Body Rejected
During the hearing, Twisha's in-laws also requested that the body be handed over to them; however, the court did not accede to this request. Prioritizing the ongoing investigative process, the court dismissed the demand for the time being.
Questions Raised Over Giribala's Bail
The court also heard a petition challenging the anticipatory bail granted to the deceased's mother-in-law and former judge, Giribala Singh.
Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta argued before the court that there is a apprehension that the bail might be misused to influence or destroy evidence.
A single-judge bench presided over by Justice Avnindra Singh has issued notices to the concerned parties in this matter. The next hearing regarding the petition to cancel Giribala Singh's bail is scheduled for Monday. All eyes are now fixed on the upcoming hearing and the post-mortem report to be submitted by the expert team from AIIMS Delhi.
