Jabalpur: The investigation into the death of Noida-based model and actor Twisha Sharma witnessed a major development on Friday after her husband, Samarth Singh, appeared before a court in Jabalpur to surrender. The move came nearly ten days after Twisha was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal.
According to legal representatives, Samarth Singh decided to surrender shortly after withdrawing his anticipatory bail application from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The plea had been listed before Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh and was withdrawn on Friday, leaving surrender as the immediate legal course available to him.
Samarth Singh had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail after a lower court earlier rejected his plea. The application was filed on Thursday amid mounting pressure from investigators and public scrutiny surrounding the case.
Police had already intensified efforts to locate him after he remained untraceable for several days following the registration of the FIR. Authorities had also announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for information leading to his arrest and moved court seeking cancellation of his passport to prevent any attempt to leave the country.
Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, was found dead on May 12 at her marital residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area. Her family alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment and dowry-related abuse by her husband and in-laws.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

While Samarth Singh remained absconding, his mother Giribala Singh, a retired district and sessions judge currently serving as head of the Bhopal Consumer Court, was granted anticipatory bail by a Bhopal court earlier.
The case has attracted widespread public attention due to the serious allegations made by Twisha’s family as well as the legal and political developments surrounding the investigation. Police officials say the probe is continuing and further action will follow based on evidence collected during the investigation.
