Patna: The first phase of polling for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 began at 7 am today across 18 districts of the state. Voting is being held for 121 assembly constituencies where the fate of several prominent leaders is at stake. The phase is considered crucial in shaping the political landscape of Bihar.

To ensure a smooth and secure polling process, the Election Commission has deployed extensive security arrangements. Central paramilitary forces have been stationed at sensitive and highly sensitive polling booths, while continuous monitoring is being carried out through webcasting at multiple locations.

45,341 polling stations in state

According to official data, a total of 45,341 polling stations have been set up across the state. Over 37.5 million voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase. A total of 1,314 candidates, including 122 women, are in the fray.

Polling in areas identified as sensitive such as Munger, Simri Bakhtiyarpur, Mahishi, Tarapur, and Jamalpur will conclude at 5 p.m., while voting in other constituencies will continue until 6 p.m.

12 valid identification documents approved

To facilitate voters, the Election Commission has approved 12 valid identification documents apart from the EPIC (Voter ID) card. Strict adherence to COVID-related protocols has also been mandated to ensure voter safety during the polling process.

Early reports from various districts suggest an enthusiastic voter turnout, with large numbers of women, youth, and first-time voters participating actively. Polling stations in many areas have witnessed long queues since early morning, reflecting a strong democratic spirit among the electorate.
