Lagaan Returns to Theatres After 25 Years
New Delhi: One of Indian cinema’s most celebrated films is returning to theatres. As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, Lagaan will be re-released in cinemas on June 12, 13 and 14, giving audiences an opportunity to relive the landmark sports drama on the big screen.
Ahead of the re-release, the makers have unveiled a special trailer that revisits some of the film’s most memorable moments, sparking nostalgia among movie lovers and long-time fans.
The newly released trailer takes viewers on a journey through the world of Lagaan, highlighting its powerful storytelling, emotional depth and unforgettable characters. Set against the backdrop of colonial India, the preview captures the spirit of resilience, friendship, love and triumph that made the film a cultural phenomenon.
The trailer also showcases the film’s iconic soundtrack, reminding audiences of songs that continue to enjoy popularity decades after their release.
Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India was originally released in 2001 and starred Aamir Khan in the lead role. The film featured an ensemble cast including Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raghubir Yadav, Rajesh Vivek and several other acclaimed performers.
Music for the film was composed by A.R. Rahman, whose soundtrack became one of the defining musical achievements of the era.
Set in 1893 during British rule, the film follows villagers burdened by heavy taxation and drought. Their fate takes an unexpected turn when they are challenged by a British officer to a game of cricket, with freedom from taxes hanging in the balance.
