New Delhi: Michael Patrick, known for his appearance in Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 35 after living with motor neurone disease for over three years. He passed away on April 7 at the Northern Ireland Hospice, where he had been receiving care in his final days.
His wife, Naomi Sheehan, confirmed the news through a social media statement, saying he died peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
In his last post shared on February 6, Patrick spoke candidly about his health and the difficult decisions he faced. He revealed that doctors had indicated he “likely” had about a year left, though he acknowledged uncertainty and hope for ongoing treatment options.
The actor also shared that he had chosen not to undergo a tracheostomy after discussions with medical professionals, citing concerns about prolonged hospitalisation and the impact on his remaining time.
Motor neurone disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles, impacting movement, speech, and breathing over time.
Patrick had been open about his diagnosis and frequently shared updates about his journey, expressing gratitude for the support he received from well-wishers and medical teams. His final message thanked those who contributed to his care and fundraising efforts.
In her tribute, Sheehan described Patrick as “an inspiration” and remembered him for his spirit and resilience. She said he lived a full life despite his illness, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
She also acknowledged the support they received over the years, highlighting the role of caregivers, friends, and the wider community during his illness.
