Guwahati: The death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has cast a pall of gloom over the state and the country. Following his untimely demise in an accident in Singapore on Friday, his body was brought to Delhi and then to Guwahati. A large crowd gathered to pay their last respects, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally paid his respects.

Zubeen Garg's body arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport from Singapore at midnight on Friday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, and other senior officials were present. He was laid to rest with full state honors in Delhi. Subsequently, his body was flown by a special aircraft to Guwahati, where it will be kept for public viewing at his residence.

When Zubeen's body arrived in Guwahati, thousands gathered to pay their last respects. The massive crowd at Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport lost control and began breaking through barricades. As the situation escalated, police resorted to lathi charge. The crowd, which had gathered at midnight, broke through more than two barricades when security personnel tried to stop them.
Zubeen Garg, known as the "Voice of Assam," died on Friday while swimming in the sea in Singapore. It is reported that he was not wearing a life jacket at the time. His untimely death has deeply shocked not only Assam but the entire country.

After arriving in Guwahati, Zubeen's body will be kept at his home, where his close and family members can pay their last respects. A public funeral service will be held on 22 September from 9 am to 7 pm at the Arjun Bhogeshwar Barua Sports Complex. Thousands of fans are expected to attend.
The Assam government has stated that the funeral procedures for Zubeen Garg have not yet been finalized. The Assam Cabinet meeting on Sunday will decide on the funeral site and procedure. The funeral will take place after consultation with the family and social organizations.
