Nana Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s most powerful and distinctive performers, died in the early hours of October 8, after suffering a sudden medical emergency at his residence in Goa. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him, but he could not be saved.
Nana Patekar’s mortal remains are being brought from Goa to Pune for his final journey. His last rites will be performed at his farmhouse in Donje, on the outskirts of Pune, with full state honours.
The actor’s social organisation, Naam Foundation, said the body would be brought to Pune and kept for public darshan before the funeral. This will allow family members, friends, colleagues and fans to pay their final respects to the veteran performer.

Patekar’s influence was not limited to acting. Through Naam Foundation, he became associated with initiatives involving water conservation and support for farmers and rural communities affected by drought. His social work added another dimension to his public image and connected him with people far beyond the film industry.
His journey from Marathi theatre to some of Indian cinema’s most memorable roles made him a rare performer who had a strong presence across languages, genres and generations.
