Mumbai: The much-anticipated cinematic adaptation of the Ramayana made its international debut in Los Angeles on October 27, bringing together its principal cast and filmmakers for a high-profile premiere ahead of its theatrical release in India. Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Kannada star Yash were among the prominent faces who arrived at the red carpet event.
Held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the screening marked a major milestone for the ambitious project, which seeks to introduce the Indian epic to audiences across the world. The event attracted considerable attention, with photographs and videos of the actors making their appearances circulating widely on social media.
Ranbir Kapoor, who portrays Lord Rama, appeared in an elegant traditional ensemble. Sai Pallavi, cast as Sita, opted for a pink saree, bringing a distinctly Indian aesthetic to the occasion. Their appearances drew attention from fans gathered at the venue, with both actors posing for photographs and interacting with attendees.
Yash, who plays Ravana, arrived with his wife, actor Radhika Pandit. The actor's appearance generated an enthusiastic response, with fans cheering as he made his way to the venue. A warm embrace between Yash and Ranbir on the red carpet also became one of the widely shared moments from the premiere.
Yash's presence at the international event was particularly significant for his fans, given his standing in Kannada cinema and his transition into a major role in one of India's most ambitious film projects.
The actor expressed pride in his Kannada identity, with his remarks drawing attention amid the film's international showcase. His participation also underlined the pan-Indian character of the production, which brings together talent from different film industries.
The premiere was attended by director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, along with other members of the film's creative team. The gathering was designed to present the project to an international audience before its wider release.
Titled Ramayana: Rise of a Legend for its international presentation, the film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations.
The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol portrays Hanuman, while Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman. The project combines a large ensemble cast with extensive visual-effects work to bring the ancient narrative to the screen.
The music is being composed by A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer, bringing together two internationally recognised composers for the production. The makers have planned the film as a two-part saga, with the first instalment scheduled to reach theatres worldwide on November 5, 2026. The second part is planned for release during Diwali 2027.
With its Los Angeles premiere, the production has taken a significant step towards reaching viewers beyond the Indian market. Its theatrical release is expected to draw attention to the filmmakers' attempt to adapt one of India's most enduring epics for a contemporary, international cinematic audience.
