Mumbai: Actor Yami Gautam has urged media organisations not to use artificial intelligence to alter or enhance photographs taken during her public appearances, stressing that any manipulation of a person’s image should be carried out only with their knowledge and consent.
Yami shared her message on Instagram Stories, making a direct appeal for her photographs to be used in their original form.
In her Instagram Stories, Yami Gautam requested media outlets to avoid using AI tools to modify or enhance her public appearance photographs. She emphasised that altering an individual’s image or likeness through AI without their knowledge or consent should not be considered acceptable. The actor thanked the media in advance for respecting her request. Yami did not identify any particular photograph or publication that prompted the statement.
Yami’s comments come at a time when the use of AI-generated and AI-manipulated celebrity content has become an increasing concern across the entertainment industry. The technology can now significantly modify photographs and videos, creating realistic-looking material that may be difficult for audiences to distinguish from authentic content. Celebrities have increasingly raised concerns about the unauthorised use of their likeness.
Yami’s statement also comes shortly after Jr NTR spoke against an AI-manipulated video involving actor Janhvi Kapoor.
Jr NTR recently criticised the creation and circulation of an AI-morphed video associated with a song from his film Devara, which also starred Janhvi Kapoor. The actor described the content as unacceptable and said he would explore legal options against those responsible for creating and circulating the material.
Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have also registered a case concerning the AI-morphed video and launched an investigation into its creation and circulation on social media.
Meanwhile, Yami Gautam is preparing for her upcoming fantasy family entertainer Nayyi Navelli. The actor recently visited Takht Sri Harmandir Patna Sahib in Patna on October 3 to offer prayers ahead of the film. Nayyi Navelli is being directed by Balaji Mohan, while Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma are credited as writers. Aanand L Rai and Sharma are producing the project under Colour Yellow, marking the production house’s first collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. The film’s music has been composed by GV Prakash Kumar.
Away from her film projects, Yami Gautam and filmmaker Aditya Dhar have reportedly been spending more time at their property in Himachal Pradesh and have shifted their permanent base there. The couple have previously spoken about their connection with Himachal Pradesh, where Yami grew up, making the state an important part of their personal lives.
