Ahmedabad: Gujarat has reported its first suspected Ebola case after a 37-year-old man who recently arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo was quarantined in Ahmedabad following the appearance of Ebola-like symptoms.

The man, reportedly a banker by profession, travelled from Congo to Mumbai before reaching Vadodara. Health officials said he developed a high fever and other symptoms associated with Ebola during his stay in Gujarat, prompting immediate medical intervention.

Patient Shifted To Ahmedabad Civil Hospital

Following the detection of symptoms, the patient was shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and admitted to a specially designated isolation ward created for Ebola-related emergencies.

Officials said the patient remains under continuous medical observation. Initial test results reportedly came back negative, but further laboratory examinations are still underway. Authorities stated that the patient would remain in quarantine until all reports are conclusively cleared.

Health teams have activated precautionary protocols, including strict isolation measures and monitoring procedures at the hospital.

State Health Machinery On Alert

The suspected case has triggered heightened vigilance across Gujarat, with health authorities reviewing preparedness measures for infectious diseases.

Officials confirmed that dedicated medical teams are monitoring the situation closely. Surveillance measures have also been strengthened following concerns linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa.

The Union Health Ministry has stated that no confirmed Ebola case has been detected in India so far.

Karnataka Reports Negative Ebola Test

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao confirmed that a 28-year-old woman from Uganda, who had earlier shown mild symptoms and was admitted to a Bengaluru hospital for observation, tested negative for Ebola.

Her blood samples had been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for examination.

WHO Monitoring African Outbreak

The developments come amid growing international concern over Ebola outbreaks reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

The World Health Organization recently declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Ebola is a severe viral disease transmitted through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated surfaces and has historically recorded high fatality rates in several African countries.
