Ebola case reported in the state has tested negative (Img: Internet)
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya on Thursday confirmed that the suspected Ebola case reported in the state has tested negative, easing concerns of a possible outbreak.
The suspected patient, a traveller from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), had been under observation after showing symptoms linked to the deadly viral disease. Health authorities had initiated precautionary protocols amid growing global concerns over Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Pansheriya urged citizens not to spread or believe rumours regarding the situation.

“The report of the suspected patient originating from Congo has come back negative. Citizens should not panic and should rely only on official information released by the Health Department,” the minister said.
Officials clarified that the state health machinery remains fully alert and prepared to respond to any potential public health emergency.
Health teams had isolated and monitored the traveller as part of standard safety procedures after symptoms raised suspicion of possible Ebola infection. Authorities said all required medical protocols, including testing and contact monitoring, were carried out promptly.
The Health Department has continued surveillance at airports and hospitals following the World Health Organisation’s recent declaration regarding Ebola outbreaks in Africa.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) earlier declared the Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) under the International Health Regulations framework.

According to international reports, more than 1,000 suspected Ebola cases have been recorded in Congo since the outbreak began, including several deaths. Health experts believe the actual number of infections may be higher due to delayed reporting in affected areas.
Ebola is a severe viral haemorrhagic fever that spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated materials. The disease carries a high fatality rate, and experts continue to monitor its spread closely.
While the Gujarat case has tested negative, officials said precautionary monitoring will continue as part of broader preparedness efforts. Citizens have been advised to follow official health advisories and avoid misinformation circulating online.
