India Heatwave Health Alert
New Delhi: Several parts of India are currently experiencing intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures continuing to rise across North and Central regions. While heat-related illnesses remain a concern, experts are now warning that extreme weather is also contributing to growing levels of physical fatigue and mental exhaustion.
Many people are reporting symptoms such as low energy, disturbed sleep, difficulty concentrating, body weakness and irritability, even without engaging in physically demanding activities.
According to medical experts, the human body works constantly to regulate temperature during extreme heat. Sweating helps cool the body, but it also leads to continuous fluid and mineral loss.
Experts explained that the body uses extra energy to remain cool in high temperatures.
As a result, people spending long hours outdoors, travelling through traffic or working in poorly ventilated environments may experience stronger exhaustion during summer.
Experts say dehydration remains one of the leading causes of summer fatigue. Excessive sweating removes water as well as essential minerals from the body, leading to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, muscle weakness and poor concentration.
Experts warn that waiting until thirst appears may not be enough during heatwave conditions. Regular hydration throughout the day becomes essential.
Sleep patterns are also affected by hot and humid nights. Frequent waking and reduced sleep quality prevent the body from fully recovering, leaving many people feeling tired even after long hours in bed.
Medical professionals note that burnout is no longer linked only to work stress. Constant exposure to extreme weather, crowded public spaces, traffic and physical discomfort can gradually impact emotional health as well.
People may feel emotionally drained, unmotivated or unusually irritable after prolonged heat exposure. Outdoor workers and individuals in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces are considered more vulnerable.
Health experts recommend drinking enough water, eating lighter meals and avoiding direct afternoon heat whenever possible. Wearing loose cotton clothing, taking work breaks and maintaining proper sleep schedules may also help reduce exhaustion.
Experts advise people not to ignore persistent tiredness, especially if symptoms include dizziness, breathing difficulty or confusion, as these could signal more serious heat-related conditions.
