Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has expressed serious concern over the growing security concerns of approximately 2,000 Kashmiri students and other Indian nationals stranded in Iran. The association has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to immediately intervene and arrange for the safe and orderly evacuation of all Indian students.

Indian Embassy Advice and Confusion

JKSA stated that the Indian Embassy in Tehran has advised students to leave the country as soon as possible in an organized manner. However, no formal or coordinated evacuation plan has been announced yet. JKSA National Convenor Nasser Khueihami stated that the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Iran has created fear, uncertainty, and anxiety among students and their families.

Self-evacuation is neither safe nor practical

The association clarified that expecting students to evacuate on their own in an unstable and turbulent environment is neither safe nor practical. The absence of an organized evacuation mechanism has further exacerbated the hardships of students and their families. The JKSA appealed to the government to establish a clear evacuation framework, a dedicated emergency helpline, and a safe transit route.

Mehbooba Mufti also demanded government intervention

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also demanded the central government's immediate intervention to ensure the safe return of students, including Kashmiri students, amid tensions in Iran. This demand came after parents expressed concern about the safety of their children.

Anxiety and Internet Problems in Families

Parents of students are currently deeply concerned. They stated that disruptions in internet and communication services are making it difficult to maintain regular contact with their children. Parents like Syed Muzamil Qadri expressed confidence in the capabilities of the External Affairs Minister and the Indian government, but requested that students not be left alone in this difficult situation.

Appeal for Immediate and Coordinated Action

Parents and the JKSA have appealed to the government to contact the Iranian government to ensure the safe, dignified, and orderly evacuation of Indian students. They warned that any delay could increase the risk to the safety and mental health of the students.

Situation of Students

Most students in Iran are pursuing medical and other professional courses. In the current turbulent environment, their future is uncertain and their security is at risk. The JKSA has urged the government to take immediate and proactive steps to ensure the safe return of students home.
