Bangladesh: Another student leader Motaleb Shikder shot days after Osman Hadi death

Dhaka: Student politics in Bangladesh is once again gripped by violence. Just days after the death of Osman Hadi, one of the prominent figures of the 2024 student movement, another student leader has been fatally attacked. This latest incident has not only stirred political circles but also raised serious questions about the country's security system.

NCP leader Motaleb Sikder shot in Khulna

According to local media reports, senior National Citizen Party (NCP) student leader Motaleb Sikder was shot in Khulna city on Monday. The attackers directly targeted his head, making it clear that the attack was intended to kill him. Motaleb Sikdar is the Khulna divisional chief of the NCP and also the central organizer of the NCP Workers' Power.

Attack in broad daylight, panic in the area

According to police, the attack occurred around 11:45 am. The incident occurred in a busy area, causing panic among the people nearby. After the firing, the attackers fled the scene. With the help of locals, the injured Motaleb Sikdar was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Hospitalized, condition stable

Investigating officer Animesh Mandal of Sonadanga Model Police Station said that the bullet passed near Motaleb's ear, saving his life. He has been admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors say his condition is currently stable and he is out of danger.

Tensions rise after Osman Hadi's death

It is noteworthy that Osman Hadi, a prominent figure in the 2024 student movement and spokesperson for the Inquilab Manch, was shot dead a few days ago. Since his death, tensions have escalated between student organizations and political parties in Bangladesh. The attack on Motaleb Sikder is now being considered part of that chain.

Questions raised about political violence

These frequent incidents have raised serious questions about Bangladesh's interim government and law and order. Student leaders and youth activists say that attempts are being made to suppress dissent through violence. Opposition parties have strongly condemned the attack and demanded an impartial investigation.

Police investigating

Police say an investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the attackers. CCTV footage is being examined, and the case is being investigated from all angles, including political rivalry. Officials claim that the culprits will soon be brought to justice.
