New Delhi: Fresh violence erupted in Lebanon on Wednesday as Israeli airstrikes in the eastern Bekaa Valley killed at least four people. According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the victims included two women and an elderly man.

The strike reportedly hit a residential building, intensifying fears among civilians. Local media reports suggested that the attack struck the home of a town mayor, resulting in multiple fatalities within the same family.

Ceasefire Violations Raise Concerns

The latest strikes come amid a fragile ceasefire that has been in place since April 17 following US-led mediation efforts. However, both Israel and Hezbollah have repeatedly accused each other of breaching the truce.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for multiple attacks targeting Israeli positions, stating these were retaliatory actions against alleged violations. Israel, on the other hand, maintains that it is targeting militant infrastructure.

Evacuation Warnings and Expanded Strikes

Shortly before the strike, the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings to residents of several towns in southern Lebanon. Reports indicate that at least a dozen areas were placed under alert, including regions beyond the Litani River.

Israeli forces later confirmed carrying out airstrikes and artillery shelling on multiple locations, including Yohmor al-Shaqeef in the Nabatieh district. Visuals from the area showed thick plumes of smoke rising near key landmarks, with infrastructure damage reported.

Rising Toll and Regional Tensions

Since early March, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have resulted in over 2,700 deaths, according to available reports. The violence has continued even after the ceasefire, with dozens killed in recent weeks alone.

The Israeli military has also reported casualties on its side, including soldiers and a civilian contractor. The continued exchange of fire has heightened concerns over a broader escalation in the region.
