Tehran: Iran has reportedly fired a first wave of ballistic missiles toward Israel, escalating tensions hours after joint military strikes by the United States and Israel targeted Iranian facilities.

According to reports, between 30 and 75 missiles were launched toward Israeli territory. Air raid sirens were activated across northern parts of the country as authorities warned residents of incoming threats.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that its air defence systems were actively working to intercept the missiles. “A short while ago, sirens were sounded in several areas across the country following the identification of missiles launched from Iran toward the State of Israel,” the military said in a statement.

Air Defence Systems Activated

Israeli officials said the country’s missile defence systems were deployed to neutralise incoming projectiles. The military did not immediately provide details on how many missiles had been intercepted or whether any had struck targets.

The missile launches followed Israeli alerts warning residents to prepare for possible retaliatory attacks after earlier strikes on Iranian targets. Security officials also urged citizens to remain close to shelters and follow emergency instructions as the situation continues to evolve.

Joint US-Israel Strikes Trigger Retaliation

The missile attack came shortly after reports that the United States and Israel had conducted coordinated air and sea strikes on Iran earlier in the day.

According to international media reports, the operation targeted strategic Iranian sites as part of a wider effort to weaken Tehran’s military capabilities.

In recent weeks, the United States had already reinforced its military presence in West Asia by deploying aircraft carriers, fighter jets and guided-missile destroyers to the region.

An Israeli defence official said the strikes were the result of months of planning, with the final timing of the operation decided weeks ago.

Iran Warns of Strong Response

Iranian authorities signalled that their response would be firm. Officials linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that Tehran’s retaliation would be “strong and decisive.”

The country’s National Security Committee also warned Washington and Tel Aviv that the conflict could spiral beyond their control.

Rising Anxiety in Tehran

Meanwhile, signs of public concern were visible in Tehran as tensions intensified. Witnesses reported long queues at petrol stations while some residents began leaving the city amid fears of further escalation.

With missiles already launched and military operations ongoing, regional tensions remain high, raising concerns that the confrontation could expand into a broader Middle East conflict.
