Tehran: Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated further after Tehran strongly condemned Washington’s latest sanctions, calling them a “declaration of war” not only against Iran but against all nations.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei accused the US of trying to impose “extraterritorial sovereignty” by pressuring foreign governments, banks and businesses to follow American restrictions. He said such actions violate the principle of sovereign equality among nations.
Baghaei alleged that the new sanctions represent an attempt to control international trade and limit the independence of other countries. He warned that combining sanctions with any form of naval blockade could undermine the sovereignty of nations and push the world towards a “catastrophic return to colonialism.”
Iran said no country has the right to force independent nations to stop legitimate trade with another state under international law.
US President Donald Trump said Iran was not ready to agree to what he described as the “right deal” and maintained that military options remain available.
Trump claimed Iran is facing severe economic challenges and said Washington would continue to monitor the situation before deciding its next steps.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the conflict with the US would eventually have to end. He said ending the war while Iran remains strong would be preferable and accused the US of violating international norms.
Pezeshkian also acknowledged growing public frustration inside Iran due to economic pressure and the impact of the ongoing conflict.
The latest exchange of statements highlights the growing confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with both sides showing little sign of backing down.
