Washington: US President Donald Trump has claimed that the ongoing military confrontation with Iran could conclude soon, asserting that the outcome largely depends on his decision.

In a phone interview with Axios on Wednesday, Trump said the war could end “any time I want it to end,” adding that most of the intended military objectives had already been achieved.

The remarks came amid continuing tensions in the Middle East, where US and allied forces have carried out multiple strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure.

Israeli Minister Says Campaign Will Continue

Despite Trump’s assertion that the conflict could end soon, Israeli leaders indicated that operations may continue for an extended period. Israel Katz stated that the joint military campaign by Israel and the United States would proceed “as long as necessary.”

According to Katz, the strikes are aimed at meeting strategic objectives and weakening Iran’s military capabilities. He also indicated that operations across Tehran and other locations would continue with sustained intensity until the campaign’s goals are fulfilled.

Trump Claims Military Objectives Achieved

Trump suggested that the US operation had significantly reduced Iran’s military strength. He claimed that Iranian naval and air capabilities had been severely damaged and that drone and missile systems were being neutralised.

The US president argued that there was “practically nothing left to target” in a military sense, signalling his view that the campaign had largely accomplished its mission.

Warning Over Strait of Hormuz

Trump also issued a strong warning regarding reports of potential threats to shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit corridors.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump cautioned that any attempt by Iran to place mines in the strategic waterway would trigger severe military consequences. The strait carries a significant portion of global oil shipments, making its security vital for international energy markets.

Tensions Continue Despite Statements

While Trump has hinted at a possible end to hostilities, military operations and exchanges of warnings continue in the region. Analysts say the trajectory of the conflict will depend on both diplomatic developments and the actions taken by the parties involved in the coming days.
