New Delhi: Two Indian nationals have been confirmed dead and another is missing after merchant vessels operating in the conflict-hit West Asia region were attacked, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the casualties during a media briefing, stating that the Indian nationals were aboard commercial ships when the attacks occurred. According to officials, Indian missions in the region are in contact with authorities and families of the affected seafarers.

Apart from the fatalities and the missing crew member, several Indians have been injured in separate incidents across countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
Officials said one Indian national was injured in Dubai and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The Indian consulate is in touch with the injured individual and monitoring the situation closely.
The MEA said the government is coordinating with Indian missions across the region to ensure necessary assistance is provided to affected citizens.
In a related incident, a Thai-flagged cargo ship came under attack while sailing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global oil shipments.
The bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was reportedly struck by projectiles near the Omani coast while carrying oil cargo and heading towards India. Reports said the attack occurred roughly 11 nautical miles north of Oman’s shoreline.

Thailand’s Royal Navy and international maritime authorities launched rescue operations soon after the attack was reported.
Preliminary reports indicated that at least 20 crew members have been rescued so far, while search operations continue for three individuals believed to remain on board the vessel.
Authorities across the region are closely monitoring maritime security as tensions in West Asia continue to threaten commercial shipping routes.
