Iran-US Talks Collapse in Islamabad
Tehran: High-level talks between Iran and the United States to resolve the ongoing tensions in West Asia ended without any concrete results. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that an agreement between the two sides was "just inches away," but that a sudden increase in demands and shifting positions derailed the talks.
Araghchi stated on the social media platform X that Iran had entered the talks with "the noble intention of ending the war." These were considered the highest-level talks between the two countries in nearly 50 years. He said that despite coming close to an "Islamabad MoU," more demands and obstacles arose at the last minute, preventing agreement.

Delegations from both countries met in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The aim of the meeting was to end the ongoing conflict in West Asia and find a lasting solution. However, despite lengthy negotiations, no consensus was reached, dealing a blow to efforts to find a diplomatic solution.
The Iranian Foreign Minister accused the US of "changing goals" and making "excessive demands" during the talks. He said that these circumstances made it difficult to move forward. However, he did not specify which demands posed the biggest obstacle to an agreement.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also indicated that the possibility of a future agreement is not yet over. He said that if the US abandons its "dictatorial attitude" and respects Iran's rights, the talks could move forward.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also reacted to the talks, saying that Iran had come with the intention of reaching an agreement, but it did not trust the other side. He claimed that the Iranian delegation made positive proposals, but the US side failed to gain trust.
Even after the failure of these talks, the doors to dialogue between the two countries have not been completely closed. Experts believe that both sides will need to adopt a flexible approach to maintain regional peace. For now, the world is watching to see whether the two countries will return to the negotiating table in the near future or whether tensions will escalate further.
