Nepal interim PM Sushila Karki announces voting rights for 16-year-olds after Gen-Z protest

Kathmandu: Nepal's interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki made important announcements in her address to the nation. She stated that elections will be held in Nepal by March 5th. She also announced lowering the voting age to 16. Previously, the minimum voting age in the country was 18. The interim Prime Minister stated that this change has been made through an ordinance in the election law. Now, young voters will also be able to participate in the country's democratic process and elect their representatives. She appealed to the public to maintain a peaceful environment so that the elections can be conducted successfully and fairly. Gen-Z Movement And Path To Democracy The Prime Minister stated that the current government cannot amend the Constitution or change the system of governance. These changes are only possible through the constitutional process of the new Parliament. Recalling the role of the Gen-Z Movement, Karki said that this movement was not merely a protest, but a call for democracy and a fight against corruption. She saluted the youth of the Gen-Z generation who showed a new path for the country.
