New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son Yair Netanyahu has been urgently brought back to Israel from the United States after authorities detected what they described as a “significant threat” against him. Israel’s internal security agency Shin Bet confirmed that the decision was taken following a security assessment.

Yair Netanyahu Evacuated From Florida

Yair Netanyahu was staying in Florida when Israeli officials decided to move him back to Israel along with his security team. The Shin Bet said the threat was serious enough to require an immediate evacuation but did not disclose details about the nature of the threat or the individuals behind it.

“There was indeed a significant threat to harm Yair Netanyahu, and following a situation assessment, a decision was made to extract him together with his security team urgently back to Israel,” the security agency said.

Iran Assassination Plot Angle Under Investigation

The development comes days after Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Iran had attempted to target one of his sons.

In an interview, the Israeli Prime Minister said Iran had “marked one of my sons” and attempted to harm him, though he did not specify whether Yair or his other son Avner was allegedly targeted.

Reports suggested that Israeli intelligence had received information about a possible Iranian-linked plot against Yair while he was in Florida. However, the Shin Bet has not officially confirmed that Iran was responsible for the threat.

Security Agencies Took Emergency Action

According to reports, Israeli security officials coordinated with authorities in the United States before moving Yair back to Israel. Shin Bet personnel were also reportedly involved in the evacuation process.

Yair Netanyahu has been living for an extended period in the Miami area. His stay abroad had previously drawn criticism in Israel, particularly after the October 2023 Hamas attack, when thousands of Israeli reservists were mobilised for military duty.

Rising Security Concerns Around Netanyahu Family

The latest incident has increased attention on security concerns surrounding the Israeli prime minister’s family amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.

Authorities are continuing to assess the threat, while officials have not released further information about the alleged plot or possible suspects.
