New Delhi: A senior source in the Indian government has termed as completely baseless the report that claimed that an agreement has been reached between India and Iran for the release of three ships.

The report said that in exchange for the release of ships seized by India, Iran would ensure safe movement of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. But government sources clearly said that no such talks have taken place between India and Iran.

The claim that the ships belong to Iran is also wrong.

Government sources also clarified that the three ships in question are not owned by Iran. Therefore, the question of any such deal does not arise. This statement came after the report, which said that Iran has demanded India release these ships.

Which ships were seized?

In February, Indian coastal authorities seized three oil tanker ships. These ships were suspected of being involved in illegal oil trade.

The ships seized include Stellar Ruby, Asphalt Star, and Al Jafzia. They were stopped near the Mumbai coast on February 6 and detained for investigation.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz important?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important sea routes, through which a large amount of global oil supply passes. Recently, tension in this area has increased significantly after the attacks on Iran by America and Israel.

Iran's warning

Iran has said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be allowed to be used for military action against it. Iranian officials say that their forces are monitoring the activities of ships passing through this route, and the movement can be controlled if necessary.

Increasing tension in the area

Following the US and Israeli attacks, Iran has also taken several retaliatory actions in the region, including targeting ships. Three Indian sailors have died in these attacks, while one is still reported missing.
