Auto rickshaw blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa kills 8
Islamabad: At least eight people, including two security personnel, were killed and 35 others injured when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday. The attack took place in the Lakki Marwat district of the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to district police officials, the attacker targeted Phattak Chowk in Naurang Bazar using a three-wheeler auto rickshaw packed with explosives.
Among the deceased were two traffic police officers and a woman. The injured were initially taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sarai Naurang, with several critically wounded patients referred to hospitals in Bannu and Peshawar for advanced care.
Emergency services were mobilized immediately, with ambulances and rescue teams dispatched to the site. All medical personnel at the affected hospitals were placed on high alert, said Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shahdab Khan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Afridi condemned the attack, taking prompt action by directing the Inspector General of Police to provide a detailed report. “We stand with the bereaved families during this difficult time and the provincial government will provide all possible support,” he stated.
