New Delhi: Pakistan’s issuance of a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting a large stretch of airspace has triggered speculation that the country may be preparing for a missile-related activity.

The airspace restriction, covering nearly 750 kilometres during August 19-20, has drawn attention from defence analysts due to its unusual size and timing. However, the notification does not mention any specific missile launch or military exercise.

Focus on Pakistan’s Fatah Missile Series

The speculation is linked to Pakistan’s Fatah family of precision-strike systems, which have become an important part of Islamabad’s efforts to develop indigenous conventional strike capabilities.

Pakistan currently operates the Fatah-1 and Fatah-2 missile systems, while reports have suggested that advanced variants, including Fatah-3 and Fatah-5, are part of future development plans. However, details about their specifications, deployment status, and operational readiness remain unclear.

Fatah Systems Strengthen Rocket Force Capability

The Fatah missile series is associated with the Pakistan Army Rocket Force Command (ARFC), which was established to enhance the country’s long-range conventional strike capabilities.

The systems are designed to improve precision targeting and provide the military with the ability to conduct strikes over greater distances without depending entirely on aircraft.

No Official Confirmation on Missile Test

Although the NOTAM has led to discussions among defence observers, Pakistan has not officially confirmed any upcoming missile test involving the Fatah-3 or any other system.

The large airspace restriction could be linked to multiple military activities, and further details may emerge only after an official announcement from Pakistani authorities.
