Washington: US President Donald Trump has launched a new economic campaign targeting Iran, describing it as the “most crushing economic operation” ever imposed against a country.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said the move would amount to “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.” He warned that any country, financial institution, company or government body providing economic support to Iran would face “tremendous consequences” from Washington.
Trump called for an immediate halt to activities that allegedly support Iran’s economy, including oil smuggling, financial transfers, exchange networks, ship registrations and front companies.
He urged US allies to join Washington’s efforts to isolate Tehran, saying the campaign was aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to fund military activities and expand its influence globally.
The US President claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had suffered major setbacks, saying the country’s naval strength, air force and military production facilities had been severely damaged.
Trump also reiterated his stance that Iran would never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, maintaining that Washington’s actions were aimed at preventing Tehran from gaining nuclear capabilities.
The announcement has raised questions over countries that maintain economic or diplomatic ties with Iran. Russia has reportedly provided military cooperation and drone-related support to Tehran, while China continues to purchase Iranian oil and maintain trade relations.
Pakistan has largely supported diplomatic efforts and called for dialogue but has not been accused of providing military assistance to Iran.
The latest move comes amid growing tensions between Washington and Tehran. With diplomatic efforts facing challenges, the US appears to be increasing economic pressure on Iran through sanctions, restrictions and international isolation measures.
