Beirut: Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has warned that Israel’s recent strikes on critical infrastructure in southern Lebanon could signal a potential ground invasion, amid rising tensions in the region.

Reacting to the attacks, Aoun strongly condemned the destruction of vital facilities, calling it a “dangerous escalation” and a “blatant violation” of Lebanon’s sovereignty. He cautioned that such actions may be a “prelude to a ground invasion,” a scenario Lebanon has repeatedly warned against through diplomatic channels.

Condemning the attacks, he said they “constitute a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and are a prelude to a ground invasion, which Lebanon has repeatedly warned against through diplomatic channels.”

The president said that targeting bridges over the Litani River, a vital artery for civilian movement, aims to cut geographical connectivity between areas south of the river and the rest of Lebanon, hinder humanitarian aid access, and fall within plans to establish a buffer zone and expand Israeli presence inside Lebanese territory.
