Washington: US President Donald Trump has made a major claim over the ongoing Iran conflict, saying the war could come to an end soon after the US midterm elections scheduled in November. His remarks have added a new political dimension to the escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Trump said Iran was hoping to influence the US election outcome and was waiting for a different political environment in Washington. According to him, Tehran wants a weaker leadership that would ease pressure on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump Rules Out Immediate Iran Negotiations

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Trump said the US is not actively looking for talks with Iran at present. However, he indicated that negotiations could still take place under certain circumstances.

The US President said Washington’s focus was not limited to Iran’s nuclear programme and that any future agreement would involve broader issues.

Hormuz Crisis Adds To US-Iran Tensions

The situation has worsened around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, where attacks on vessels have increased concerns over global energy supplies. Both sides have accused each other of carrying out strikes in the region.

Trump said recent attacks in the area were being conducted by US forces and warned that more actions could follow. The conflict has also pushed oil prices higher amid fears of disruption to one of the world’s most important energy routes.

Midterm Elections Become A Key Factor

The US midterm elections on November 3 will decide control of Congress and are being viewed as a crucial test for Trump’s administration. The ongoing Iran war, economic concerns and rising living costs are expected to influence voter sentiment.

Trump’s comments suggest that the future course of the Iran conflict could become closely linked with the political outcome of the US elections.
