New Delhi: After Bihar, the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists is underway in several states across the country. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has targeted the Election Commission regarding this. Raising the issue of BLO deaths in various states, Rahul Gandhi said that SIR is not a reform, but an imposed oppression. He also said that India today makes the world's leading software, but the Election Commission is still adamant on creating a jungle of paperwork.

Election Commission insists on creating a jungle of paperwork: Rahul Gandhi
He also accused the Election Commission, saying, "The ECI has created a system where citizens have to turn through thousands of scanned pages of 22-year-old voter lists to find themselves. The objective is clear: to tire out genuine voters and allow vote-stealing to continue unabated."

In his post, Rahul Gandhi said that India develops cutting-edge software for the world, but the Election Commission of India is still insistent on creating a jungle of paperwork. If the intentions were clear, the list would be digital, searchable, and machine-readable – and the ECI would have taken its time and focused on transparency and accountability instead of rushing through the work in a 30-day rush.

Rahul Gandhi called SIR a deliberate ploy.
He said, "SIR is a deliberate ploy – where citizens are being harassed and deaths due to unnecessary pressure from BLOs are being ignored as "collateral damage." This is not a failure, but a conspiracy – a sacrifice of democracy to protect power."

It should be noted that the SIR process is underway in 12 states and union territories. These include Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. Assembly elections are due in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal in 2026.
