New Delhi: Russia launched another major attack on Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Friday, killing at least five people and injuring 52 others, including five children.
The attack marks the second major strike on the city within a week as the Russia-Ukraine war continues to escalate.
According to reports, a jet-engine drone struck a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih during the daytime attack. The strike triggered a massive fire inside the building, with thick smoke rising above the city and visible from several kilometres away.
Emergency teams rushed to the site to carry out rescue operations and provide assistance to the injured.
The latest assault came a day after a Russian attack on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, where 17 people were reportedly killed. The repeated strikes have increased international concerns over rising civilian casualties and the worsening security situation in Ukraine.
Amid intensified Russian attacks, leaders from Britain, France and Germany are scheduled to meet in Paris on Monday to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are expected to deliberate on the escalating conflict and measures to support Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also join the discussions, where his request for additional interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defence system is expected to be considered.
European Council President Antonio Costa and senior NATO officials are also likely to participate in the meeting.
