New Delhi: Kyiv witnessed one of the most frightening nights of the war after Russia launched a massive aerial assault on the Ukrainian capital late Sunday, triggering panic, destruction, and chaos across the city.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia allegedly used its feared hypersonic “Oreshnik” missile during the attack — a weapon he had warned about only days earlier.

The large-scale strike involved a deadly mix of drones and missiles targeting multiple locations in and around Kyiv. Ukrainian officials confirmed that at least two people were killed, while several others sustained injuries as explosions rocked residential areas and critical infrastructure.

Air Raid Sirens, Explosions and Fear Across Kyiv

Sunday night turned into a nightmare for residents of the Ukrainian capital. Air raid sirens echoed continuously throughout Kyiv as people rushed to underground shelters amid fears of another devastating strike. Thick smoke covered parts of the skyline while loud explosions were heard in several districts of the city.

Reports suggest that attacks took place near government offices, schools, and residential buildings, causing widespread damage and fear among civilians. Emergency teams were seen rushing to impacted sites as rescue operations continued overnight.

‘Oreshnik’ Missile Used for the Third Time in War

President Zelenskyy claimed that Russia used the destructive “Oreshnik” hypersonic missile in the assault — marking the third known use of the weapon since the beginning of the four-year-long war between Russia and Ukraine. The missile is considered extremely dangerous due to its high speed and ability to evade traditional air defense systems.

According to preliminary reports, one of the missiles struck the city of Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region. However, Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the intended target of the operation.

Tensions Escalate Amid Ongoing War

The latest strike has once again intensified fears of a wider escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The use of advanced hypersonic weaponry has raised fresh concerns among Western allies and security experts, especially as attacks on civilian areas continue to increase.

As Kyiv recovers from yet another night of destruction, uncertainty and fear continue to dominate life in the Ukrainian capital, where residents remain on constant alert amid the ongoing war.
