New Delhi: Fresh Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, have once again highlighted the growing uncertainty surrounding the war. At least six people were killed and energy supplies to several areas have been disrupted. This attack comes at a time when negotiations on a US-sponsored peace plan are reaching a new turning point and diplomatic efforts to end the war have intensified.

US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll held several hours of talks with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi. He recently joined the US team and is leading discussions on the terms of a peace agreement.

According to a US official, Ukraine is aware of these talks and all parties want to find a way to end the conflict as soon as possible. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said that steps towards a resolution appear possible following talks between US and Ukrainian representatives in Geneva.

Devastation in Kyiv and Concern for Civilians
Russia launched 22 missiles and over 460 drones overnight. Water, electricity, and heat supplies were disrupted in many parts of Kyiv. A nine-story building in the eastern Dniprovsky district erupted in flames.

Mayor Vitaliy Klychko reported that two people were killed in the area. 90-year-old Lyubov Petrivna said everything in her house was shattered and glass rained down on her. She has no faith in the peace plan. She says Putin will not stop until everything is destroyed.

Retaliation on both sides escalates
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone attack killed three people and injured eight in the Rostov region of southern Russia. Several houses, multi-story buildings, a warehouse, and other structures were damaged in the city of Taganrog.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 249 Ukrainian drones were shot down, 116 of them in the Black Sea region. This is reported to be the fourth-largest drone attack on Russia ever.

Drone Incursions in Romania-Moldova
Ukraine's Energy Ministry said several energy installations were hit, while attacks on ports and energy infrastructure in the Odessa region injured six people, including two children.

Neighboring Romania and Moldova reported that some drones violated their airspace. These incidents highlight the widespread impact of the conflict in the region.

European Leaders Warn
Discussions between US and Ukrainian representatives in Switzerland have been described as constructive, but European leaders have warned that the path to peace will not be easy.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the US plan is in the right direction, but it should not be a form of surrender. He said Ukraine's security and its military capabilities should not be limited. According to Macron, the only party that does not want peace is Russia.
