Canada: Three Indian nationals have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting incident outside a residence in Surrey, British Columbia, as part of an investigation linked to alleged extortion activities, Canadian police said.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Surrey Police Service identified the accused as Harjot Singh (21), Taranveer Singh (19), and Dayajit Singh Billing (21).

Each has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm under Section 244.2(1)(a) of the Canadian Criminal Code. The trio has been remanded into custody and will remain detained until February 5, 2026.

Police said the incident occurred on the morning of 1 February, 2026, when officers responded to reports of gunfire and a small fire outside a home near Crescent Road and 132 Street in the Crescent Beach area of Surrey. Patrol officers apprehended the suspects shortly after the incident.

The case is now being handled by the Surrey Police Major Crime Section, with authorities noting that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may follow.

Police also confirmed that all three accused are foreign nationals, and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has been notified. Officials said the suspects’ visa and immigration status are under review.

Addressing reports of injuries during the arrests, Surrey Police Staff Sergeant Lindsay Houghton said one suspect sustained swelling under both eyes after failing to comply with instructions to exit a ride-share vehicle and actively resisting arrest.

Another suspect was also injured after refusing to comply with police directions. Both were safely restrained, police added.
