New York: Panic swept through New York City's iconic Times Square on Thursday afternoon after gunshots were fired in one of the world's busiest tourist destinations. The incident unfolded amid heavy foot traffic, causing visitors, residents and tourists to run for cover as law enforcement officers rushed to the scene.

Chaos Breaks Out In Packed Times Square

The incident occurred around 3:40 pm when the area was crowded with people. Eyewitness videos shared on social media captured scenes of confusion as pedestrians fled in multiple directions, seeking shelter behind vehicles, barricades and nearby buildings.

The commotion reportedly began following a dispute that escalated into violence, creating fear among those present in the area.

Fight Reportedly Led To Shooting

According to local reports, a confrontation broke out before the gunfire erupted. During the altercation, a 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed. Moments later, shots were fired, adding to the panic in the already crowded location.

Witness footage circulating online appears to show individuals dressed in dark clothing fleeing the scene after the shooting. Police officers stationed nearby immediately responded and pursued the suspects.

Teenager Taken Into Custody

Authorities have identified a 17-year-old as the primary suspect in the case. The teenager has been taken into custody and is expected to face formal charges. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and have not yet disclosed a possible motive.

Officials are also working to determine whether additional individuals were involved.

Investigation Continues

While emergency responders confirmed that one person was transported to a hospital, reports suggest no injuries were directly caused by the gunfire. Authorities have cordoned off parts of Times Square and launched a detailed investigation.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses as they work to establish the exact sequence of events. The incident comes just days after another shooting in the Times Square area during celebrations linked to the New York Knicks.
