Washington: The United States has reiterated its tough stance on Iran amid escalating tensions in West Asia, with US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz asserting that President Donald Trump remains firm on his “red lines” and will not allow Tehran to hold global energy supplies hostage.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Waltz said the US administration is closely monitoring developments around the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, where tensions have led to what he described as a “virtual blockade.”

He warned that Iran’s actions pose a serious threat not only to regional stability but also to the global economy. Highlighting the influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Waltz said the group controls significant portions of Iran’s economy and key infrastructure, which are being used to sustain its ongoing war efforts.

“The President will not allow the regime to weaponize its control over critical energy routes,” Waltz said, emphasizing that the US is committed to ensuring uninterrupted global energy flow.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most vital corridors, handling nearly 15 million barrels of crude oil and around 5 million barrels of petroleum products ежедневно. This accounts for roughly 25% of global seaborne oil trade, making any disruption a matter of international concern.

The remarks come at a time when geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to escalate, raising fears of further disruption to global energy markets and supply chains.
